If the thought of being in front of a camera makes you feel nervous, you’re not alone. Many couples I photograph worry about looking awkward or stiff during their wedding day photos. The good news? With a few simple tips and the right approach, relaxed wedding photos are completely achievable — and can even be fun!
As a Lincolnshire wedding photographer with over 13 years of experience, I’ve helped countless couples feel confident and natural on their big day. Here’s my guide to feeling comfortable in front of the camera.

1. Choose a Photographer You Trust
This is so important — your connection with your photographer can make or break how comfortable you feel on your wedding day. Even if you feel I might not be the right fit for you, it’s worth taking the time to find someone whose style, personality, and approach resonate with you.
Feeling relaxed in front of the camera starts with knowing your photographer understands your vision, your personalities, and what matters most to you. A friendly, approachable photographer will guide you gently through poses, help you feel confident, and create a calm, supportive atmosphere.
When you trust your photographer, you’re more likely to forget the camera is even there. This allows you to focus on each other, enjoy the moment, and naturally express your emotions — which is exactly what creates beautiful, natural wedding photography.
Before booking, consider meeting your photographer in person or virtually. Have a chat about your plans, show them your inspirations, and see how they respond. The right connection will give you confidence and peace of mind, so when the big day arrives, you can relax and enjoy every moment while capturing memories that last a lifetime.
2. Schedule Time to Practice
It might sound simple, but spending a few minutes in front of a camera before your wedding can work wonders. Whether it’s a casual engagement shoot or just a short selfie session together, getting used to being photographed helps you feel more confident when the big day arrives.

3. Focus on Each Other, Not the Camera
Some of the most beautiful wedding photos happen when couples forget the camera is even there. Laugh together, whisper, hold hands, or share a quiet moment — these genuine interactions create natural, relaxed images that truly capture your love.
One of the best ways I find to help couples achieve this is to take a short walk for 10–15 minutes during the day. Not only does this give you a little breathing space, but it’s also a welcome break from the whirlwind of a wedding day — away from camera phones, family hustle, and all the little stresses.
During this time, you can simply be yourselves, connect with each other, and enjoy a private moment together. The photos I capture during these walks feel relaxed, intimate, and completely natural — the perfect way to get relaxed wedding photos that reflect your personalities and the joy of your day.
4. Relax and Move Naturally
Stiff poses can feel unnatural, so I encourage couples to move gently and naturally. Walking hand-in-hand, something as simple as stoping just to hold your partners arm can create dynamic and authentic photos. I’ll guide you through poses that feel comfortable and flattering without making you feel forced or doing anything that isn't 'you'.

5. Trust the Process
Remember, your wedding day is about your love story, not being perfect in every shot. Trust that your photographer knows how to capture those fleeting moments, from intimate glances to full-on laughter. When you relax, your confidence shines through in every photo.
6. Enjoy the Day
The most important tip? Enjoy your wedding day! Celebrate your love, soak in the atmosphere, and let yourself experience every moment. When you’re having fun, it shows — and makes for stunning, heartfelt wedding photography and a lot of the time you wont even know your having your photograph taken.
